“A cardboard box of size 13 cm x 19.5 cm containing an audio cassette, a pair of blind dice (any entry blank), a magnifying glass, an 80-page unconnected book, 16 instruction cards and a poster. Between sound and mythology, entering a graphic tale of Yoknapatawpha, Florenty & Türkowsky propose a challenging game of an infinite narrative puzzle where the listener and reader is invited to walk through a forest of signs and symbols that will have to be deciphered. In the land where the old man had earned a name. They shine like fireflies prisoned here. Yoknapatawpha is a fictional county in North Mississippi created by the American author William Faulkner as a setting of many of his novels. In 2010 on the track of the Yoknapontificatores Elise Florenty and Marcel Türkowsky investigated Faulkner`s curse. Throughout a three month stay in North Mississippi their approach was to rediscover Faulkner s Myth and what is left of it in the 21st century. The box presents a circular system of stories manifesting the crossing of the North Mississippi area in search of the relation in between religion and superstition, the importance of ancestrality, white supremacy, black pride, the archetypal figures of the horse and especially the crucial problem of renaming. We must pay attention to every detail and everything that seems to be hidden. But then all the pleasure lies in discovering, in hindsight. Elise Florenty (artist) & Marcel Türkowsky (artist/performer/musician also currently active with the Mirror Trance Theater and founder of the exhibition program Whistle, Minotaure! and furthermore known as collaborator and #member of Snake Figures Arkestra, Wooden Veil, UUHUU, Datashock, Kinn, Cones, etc) are working and strolling together since 2006, looking for stories, spells and curses questioning the power of language and its repertoire of poetic and historic-political (dream) weapons. Among other, their works like Berlin s Last Tape, Kreisel.Dreidel, Lucid #Sleep (1st Time Chance, 2nd Time Coincidence, 3rd Time Resulf of a Plan), How To Make the Pipes Speak, You Know Something That They Don t Know and their new Film Holy Time In Eternity Holy Eternity In Time manifest idiosyncratic narratives where silences, secrets and crypted signs are in constant circular conversation. The experience of a philosophical walk through a social political geo-narrative labyrinth offers a wider view of the mystery of memory, the restless anthropology, the timeless fiction and the unpredictable forgery of myth. Among recent solo exhibitions are The Eleventh Letter at Brandenburgischer Kunstverein Potsdam 2010/11, Life Ticket at Les Eglises Art Center, Chelles and Memory Wheels at Synagogue of Delme 2009, France. They participated in numerous international group exhibitions solo and in collaboration since the mid 00 . #”Mississippiana Not Finished, Just Begun” comes in handmade white foil hot stamped cartonage boxes, handnumbered limited edition of 300.
